Before & Aftercare
Before your permanent make up procedure, you should avoid:
- Caffeine and alcohol: Avoid these for 24 hours before your procedure. Caffeine can increase blood flow to your skin, which can make it harder for the artist to apply the color evenly. Alcohol can affect blood clotting.
- Aspirin and ibuprofen: Avoid these for 48 to 72 hours before your procedure. These drugs can thin your blood and cause swelling.
- Sun and tanning: Avoid sun and tanning for at least one week before your procedure.
- Brow waxing, tinting, microdermabrasion, or chemical peels: Avoid these for at least one week before your procedure.
- Retin-A: Stop using Retin-A four weeks before your procedure.
- AHA skincare products: Avoid these near your eyebrows for two weeks before and after your procedure.
- Botox: Avoid Botox around your brow area for two weeks before your procedure.
- Plucking or tweezing: Avoid plucking or tweezing your eyebrows for at least one week before your procedure.
- Excessive sweating: Avoid high-intensity exercise and excessive sweating the day of your procedure.
- You should also eat well before your procedure, as blood sugar levels can drop during the treatment process.
Aftercare
Here are some do's and don'ts for aftercare after getting microblading:
- Keep it clean and dry: Avoid getting the area wet for at least 24 hours. After that, you can gently wash your eyebrows with an antibacterial soap and water, and pat dry with a tissue.
- Avoid touching: Don't touch, scratch, or pick at your eyebrows. Touching can affect the pigment, delay healing, and cause infections. Do not pull off any scabbing.
- Avoid sun exposure: Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds for at least four weeks. Sun exposure can cause the pigment to change color, hyperpigmentation, and scarring.
- Avoid certain products: Don't apply makeup, skincare products, ointments, sunscreens, lotions, or retinoids to the brows until fully healed.
- Apply ointment: Two hours after the procedure, you may apply a tattoo after-care ointment, or similar, to the area. Apply a thin layer using a Q-tip every three hours or as needed.
- Schedule a follow-up appointment: 6-8 weeks for your touch-up.
- The healing process varies from person to person, but it typically takes about 7 to 14 days for the brows to heal over, and about one month for the color to fully set in.
